I think it is also important to note that most of the participants do not win prizes, those are a level of exceptionality. The bulk of the presenters are there for experience and hopefully a bit of fun too! If someone goes from "I am terrified of presenting at a conference-like venue" to "That wasn't....that bad at all and now I know how to do this!," then it will have been a success. Everyone has different levels of ability and effort and get a lot from what they put in at any level.

Just to start early, meet with your mentor regularly and don't try to pick a topic that is too broad or difficult :D

Also forgot to mention ask other professors besides your mentor for help. They are very happy to give quick advice. The HTCC was great as well for very little extra work and Terry was an incredible resource.

Good point, Jillian! Think of the entire campus as a resource for your projects.

I like idea of engaging with other professors. I think It will give me an idea if I would like them teaching me if I ever need to take a class in the subject. However I am wondering if there was a way I could connect with them?

Presenting at Berkeley or Stanford is so fun. We take OCC vans up when they hold it and it is a great experience. AND you get to jot on the resumes that you presented at Stanford (etc). It is pretty cool.
